Masque 6
The Annual British Costume Convention
Masque is the annual British national convention devoted to the art of costume in all it's aspects, from design and research to construction and display. Costumers of all levels of experience are welcome to come along and show their skills in one of the Masquerades, learn new techniques from the workshops and other attendees, try their had at chaos costuming, and meet up with their fellows.
This year it will be help in the Albany Hotel in Eastbourne, October 2~4 1998
The Albany is a medium-sized hotel that is used to hosting fannish events - indeed, the receptionist is a keen costumer and is hoping to put together an entry for one of the Masquerades. Situated on the sea front with excellent views over the water, the Albany has plenty of function space with a main hall, a lounge, a bar area and ample corridor space for us to spread through. The hotel has a reasonably priced carvery restaurant and an (ample) breakfast will be included in the room rate. It is a short walk from the station and the shopping area.
The programme is not yet finalised, of course, but there will be three Masquerades (Historical, Fictional, Anything Goes) as well as a selection of workshops, and chaos costuming throughout the convention. Although there will, as ever, be costumes on display of a very high standard, beginners are encouraged to come along and show their own work as well. Someone is usually willing to give a quick course on embroidery or help you get just the right effect to finish off that piece you've been working on for years!
There will be a loose theme of "Fox" to the convention, though you are of course not limited to this.
The committee sofa consists of:
Teddy (programming), Miki Dennis (hotel liaison), Gillian Dickson (treasurer), Mike Richards (membership)
